Grandma Byington’s Cookies

1.5 | Cups | Brown Sugar Packed |
2 | tsp | Salt |
1.5 | Cups | White Sugar |
2 | Cups | Butter or Shortening (or combination) |
1.5 | Cups | Chopped nuts (optional) |
2 | tsp | Vanilla |
2 | Cups | Chocolate Chips |
2 | Tbsp | hot water |
4 | Cups | Oats |
2 | tsp | baking soda |
4 | each | Eggs |
- Cream shortening or butter in a large bowl.
- Add sugar and eggs, beat well, add vanilla, beat again.
- Dissolve soda in hot water and add to creamed mixture.
- Sift flour and salt together and add to
creamed mixture - Add nuts, chocolate chips and oats.
- Stir with a large spoon.
- Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375 degrees about 10 minutes.
